HAEMATOLOGY AND BLOOD TRANSFUSION
The department comprises of two sub-units i.e. Blood transfusion and Routine Haematology laboratory. Basic equipment necessary for the functioning of the two units was available.
Departmental Function
Routine haematological tests including Hb, PCV, WBC, ESR, differential, Platelits, Retics, Hb electrophoresis, APTT, PT, LE cells, Bone marrow cytology, factors assay, FDP,D-Dimer.
Activities in blood transfusion include blood grouping, compatibility tests, antibody detection and identification; Hepatitis B and C, HIV Screening and P24 antigen. The department was also involved in hospital clinical presentations, training of medical students and Resident Doctors, SIWES students and Research. In addition, the Doctors in the department were involved in clinical services for patients with haematological diseases.
