PAEDIATRICS
The department provides clinical services to children in the best tradition of clinical care and trains both undergraduate medical students and post graduate resident doctors and serves as a center for research in various fields of paediatrics.

Departmental Functions
The Department of Paediatrics has five major units where it discharges its responsibilities:
1 Emergency Paediatric Unit (EPU). This unit handles Paediatrics emergencies of all types and is the main point of entry for new cases. It is covered at all times by House Officers, Resident Doctors and supervising Consultants.
2 The Paediatrics Ward has 24 beds. Most Paediatrics patients (except neonates) are moved to Paediatrics ward after resuscitation in stabilization in EPU.
3 Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) provides specialized neonatal care for inborn babies as well as numerous referred babies that are under the age of 30 days. It is the most resourceful neonatal unit in Kano, Katsina, Bauch and Jigawa.
4 Specialist Clinics are run in the following Paediatrics subspecialties by various consultants: Paediatrics Haematology/Oncology, Paediatrics Cardiology/Pulmunology, Paediatrics Nephrology, Paediatrics Neurology, Neonatology and Paediatrics Infectious Disease. In addition to clinical care to the sick children, the clinics provide an avenue for teaching medical students and resident doctors.
5 Paediatric Out-patient Clinic runs daily from 8.00am in the premises of GOPD by four (4) Medical Officers attached to the department.
It provides ambulatory care for the sick children. It also serves as an avenue for teaching of Paediatrics to the medical students and Resident doctors.
In addition, post call reviews, postgraduate seminar presentations, journal reviews and mortality review meetings are conducted at scheduled times every week.
