PHYSIOTHERAPY

Introduction:
The Department is one of the major service departments of the Teaching Hospital. It provides clinical services to both adults and children. The services are geared towards curative, corrective and preventive care. Due to its direct contact with the B.Sc Physiotherapy Programme of the Bayero University, the Department also serves as a centre for academic training and physiotherapeutic researches.

The Department is modulated under two (2) units;
1. Out Patients Unit:
• Gymnasium section
• Electrotherapy section
• Paediatric section (Aisha Saleh Hassan Room)

2. In-Patients Unit (wards Units):
• Medicine
• Surgery
• Orthopaedics
• Intensive Care Unit
• Paediatric
• Obs. & Gynae.

Function of the Department:
 To assess and carry out management of referred patients
 To encourage home programmes for its patients
 To assess and refer patients requiring other medical interventions
 To organize programmes on preventive/corrective health care especially for children
 To maintain/initiate specialty clinics/programmes such as;
 Hemiplegic Clinic
 Back School
 Pre-, peri- and Postnatal Clinics
 Physical fitness Clinic
 Polio Clinic
 Facial Palsy Clinic
 Cerebral Palsy Programme
 To encourage inter-departmental clinical programmes
 To offer training of intern Physiotherapists
 To offer clinical training of Physiotherapy students from Bayero University
 To initiate Physiotherapy introductory programme for medical and Nursing Students
 To organize Physical fitness (especially Back Awareness) programme for the hospital community
 To encourage clinical researches and publications
 To participate in community based Physiotherapy services to rehabilitation centres and special children homes
 To obey hospitals rules/regulations and be complaint with the servicom statutes
 To supervise practicum for Masters student in Physical and Health Education
