COMMUNITY MEDICINE

The department is in good position to offer consultancy services to both Government and Non-Governmental Organisation; Local and International in any area of Public Health, Health systems, Epidemiology as well as Health planning and evaluation
The following courses will soon be commence
1. Update courses for in-service primary health care workers
2. Research Methodology and statistical computing for postgraduate Medical Doctors and other health workers interested in advanced statistics
3. Master of Public Health programme

SERVICE RENDERED
� Comprehensive health care encompassing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative care at two primary health centres: Kumbotso Comprehensive Health Center in a rural area and Sharada Primary health centres; an urban center.
� Offer both in-patient and out-patient care, ante-natal, delivery, and post natal care, growth monitoring, routine immunisation services, control of diseases/ARI, child welfare services/IMCI
� Kumbotso CHC, offer occupational health services including pre-employment and periodic medical examination, primary medical care, biological monitoring and hope to commence retainereship as well as NHIS services
� Also work with Sharada and Marmara Communities for the implementation of community IMCI (a collaborative work with WHO, UNICEF, FMOH and Kano State Ministry of Health, Kano Municipal Local government as well as the host communities)
� Within the AKTH premises, the following services are rendered:
1. Immunisation/child welfare clinic
2. Tuberclusis/DOTs
3. ART (a multidisciplinary programme involving Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital). Our participation covers patients� treatment, Monitoring and Evaluation as well offering Home based care and support.
� In charged of the hospital mortality data ( collect, analyse, interpret the hospital mortality data and present same to the hospital community during quarterly meeting
� In-charge of hospital morality data � Collect, analyse, interpret the hospital morality data and present same to the hospital community during Quarterly meetings.
� Also train Community Health Officers, Resident Doctors and participate in the training of Medical students of Bayero University Kano

� 6 Senior Consultants: one of whom is a professor, 2 Senior Lecturers, 3 Lecturer 1, 2 Senior Registrars (1 of whom has passed the final examination, awaiting appointment as a consultant)

� 2 PHC Tutors
� 2 Community Health Officers
� 5 Community Health Extension Workers
� 5 Data entry Clerks
� 2 Junior Community Health Extension Workers
� 1 Clinical Assistants
� 2 Principal Nursing Officers
