FAMILY MEDICINE

Departmental Functions
The Family Medicine (GOPD) is the first point of contact for new patients with the hospital in addition to the Accident and Emergency. It provides the following services:
1. Residency training in family medicine.
2. Primary and Secondary Care – Via General Outpatients, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), staff retainership clinics and inpatient care.
3. Referrals to the specialist clinics for deserving patients.

CONSULTANT FAMILY PHYSICIAN

  • Day to day patient management in the clinic including in-patient and minor surgical/Obst/Gynea procedures
  • Regular teaching of Residents by patient review and departmental clinical seminar
  • Monitoring/Supervision of Resident Doctors posting/programmes.
  • Supervision of Resident final part II project/research
  • Moderating all clinical presentation/seminars by resident/medical officers
  • Monitoring of Resident in the department

RESIDENTS
  • Partake in all prescribed training programmes as stipulated by the two postgraduate college
  • Avail themselves in all posting to various departments in AKTH and outside the hospital
  • Partake in the management of C. H. C. Kumbotso

    MEDICAL OFFICERS
  • Day to day running of all clinics under Family Medicine
  • Partake in the department clinical seminar
  • Attend Revision/Update courses as part of continuing Medical Education both within and outside AKTH
